Countries in NameBase

By selecting a country, you will first get a graph that shows the entry-year distribution of names in NameBase from 1950-2009. Under the graph you may specify a time frame to limit the searching for that country. If a source mentioned that a name was located in or involved with Iran from 1977 to 1979, for example, this information causes each of those three years to be incremented by one on the graph for Iran. Some old names, such as the USSR and Yugoslavia, are still used. The U.S. is not on the list because this would have made data entry unmanageable. For some countries, more than one name is valid. For example, by asking for Rhodesia you get all entries for a combined Rhodesia / Zimbabwe, but all will be identified as Zimbabwe, the latest name.
