Report on the Americas (6 times/year, $27/year for individuals)

NACLA began in 1966 and quickly became one of the most important research organizations to emerge out of the U.S. student movement. Through the mid-seventies their publications concentrated on the role of U.S. corporations and foreign policy in Latin America, with special emphasis on U.S. universities, development policy, police training, and CIA covert activities. Reports were well-researched, with more facts than analysis.

Frequently NACLA was ahead of the pack. Their October, 1973 issue of Latin America & Empire Report, for example, was naming CIA names in Chile a year before major media conceded any U.S. involvement at all in the coup.

NACLA's research function was spun off into DataCenter (1904 Franklin St., Suite 900, Oakland CA 94612, Tel: 510-835-4692) in 1977, and NACLA produced their journal under a new name, Report on the Americas. The change of name reflects a shift in emphasis: indigenous political and cultural movements in Latin America are discussed more frequently now than the U.S. role in the region. But their standards for reporting remain high.
