Canadian Covert Activity Analyst (1984-1985)

This journal, which was published from Vancouver by Mark Fornataro, wins our award for the most obscure publication in NameBase. It lasted for two issues: a 20-page issue in 1984 and a 40-page issue in 1985.

The 1984 issue has a long article on former Howard Hughes aide John Meier and another on FBI provocateur Joseph Burton, a shorter article on the CIA's testing of LSD in Canada, and an interview with Scott Barnes. The Burton article is by Ken Lawrence and the others by Mark Fornataro.

The 1985 issue consists of a 36-page lawsuit that was filed by Barnes (and later dismissed) against the CIA and ABC News, for "a conspiracy among the Defendants to shield the truth of a claim made by Barnes that he was solicited by the CIA to murder an American citizen." When ABC ran Barnes' allegations in September 1984, the CIA filed a complaint with the FCC asking them to consider whether ABC was fit to hold a license. ABC retracted their story in November and Barnes filed this lawsuit the following year.

Then like a bad penny, Scott Barnes was in the news once again in 1992, concerning the circumstances surrounding Ross Perot's withdrawal from the presidential race.
