Novosti. Who's Who in the Soviet Government. Moscow: Novosti Press Agency Publishing House, 1990. 196 pages.

In 1990 there was still a Soviet Union and the Communist Party was still running it. The 68 names in this little book each include a photo, a one-paragraph biography, and two or more pages of interview questions and answers with each official.

This publication comes out of the Information Department of the USSR Council of Ministers. The officials listed are the ministers of various economic sectors and industries, as well as the chairpersons of the state committees and state commissions for everything from State Security (KGB) to Hydrometeorology, and from Cinematography to Forestry.

Almost all of these names are identified in their biographies as Party members, so one presumes that most lost their jobs, even if their departments survived in some form after the dramatic changes of the early 1990s. But with the situation as unstable as it appears to be in 1994, perhaps some of them will again play a role in the near future.
