NameBase NewsLine was a quarterly newsletter that appeared 17 times from 1993-1997. A printed version of NewsLine was sent out free of charge to users of NameBase, along with a list of recent sources that were entered in this database. Users then had the option of ordering a new set of disks.

The NameBase menu still provides access to back issues in electronic text form. These ASCII files may be distributed freely, as NewsLine is not copyrighted. Since NameBase users have convenient access to this electronic version, all pagination for NewsLine, when cited in NameBase, refers to the page indicated on the bottom of the screen while reading NewsLine from the NameBase menu.

NewsLine had one article per issue, with perhaps a sidebar or two. Topics have included cyberspace, conspiracy theory, organized crime, the CIA, the media, political correctness, and cults. It began because PIR was sending out one-page NameBase update notices anyway, and wanted to stuff three more sheets in there since we had already paid for the stamp. When a donor gave PIR enough for a laser printer, it was a done deal. But by 1997, NewsLine was becoming a drain on PIR's meager resources, even though it seemed to be a hit on the Internet.
